The following photos show the former shooting range in Gross Ippener, installed around
1935 for the garrison of Delmenhorst. It seems if three different firing lanes for distances of 100m, 150m and
200 or 300m existed there. After WWII the range was used by British Army, also illustrated in the two plans on the right. A 300 yds firing lane was installed with additional firing points at 100 and 200 yds. Demolished concrete structures marked on the plans lead one to assume that parts of the range were demilitarized after WWII. There was also a troop shelter in the western part of the area, no longer existing. It was probably constructed after WWII as well. In the 1960s a new shooting range was installed south of that area. The usage of the old range ended several years later. The area was later used for sand exploitation. Since then the scenery has completely changed. Nevertheless parts of the range can still be recognized, also framings for the targets can still be found there. The range was also used by units stationed in Caspari Kaserne. Some of the following photos show shooting drill of 3rd company Luftwaffenausbildungsregiment 2 in the first quarter of 1959. |
